Advancing Digital Endpoints

Azizi Seixas, Ph.D.

Dr. Azizi Seixas is a national and international thought leader in precision and personalized population health, digital health technology and innovation, and novel analytical tools like AI and machine learning to tackle our most vexing public health issues. He is currently Associate Professor of Behavioral Health and Psychology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Interim Chair of the Department of Informatics and Health Data Science, Director of The Media and Innovation Lab (The MIL), Associate Director of the Center for Translational Sleep and Circadian Sciences (TSCS) and leading the University of Miami’s Digital Therapeutics vertical in the Institute of Data Science and Computing. He was selected as an Education Champion by Amazon Web Services for his innovative work using cloud computing technology and his advocacy for improving education and recognized by Cell Press, the world’s most renowned scientific publishing house, as top 100 most inspiring Black scientists in America.

Dr. Seixas’ mission to make healthcare more equitable for all starts with fundamentally rethinking the paradigms by which data is transformed into stories that inspire action – from how academic research institutes engage with underserved, disenfranchised, and overlooked communities, to fostering a new generation of scientific leaders from within these communities to drive future research and innovative thinking. The University of Miami shares this bold vision and recruited Dr. Seixas to establish The MIL as a hot-bed of investigation, innovation, and collaboration and to integrate more fully with the communities of South Florida and beyond.

Dr. Seixas’ groundbreaking research broadly focuses on three areas: multilevel determinants of sleep and cardiovascular disease disparities; long-term health consequences of cardiovascular disease (CVD) disparities; and, developing adaptive, group-tailored, and personalized behavior modification interventions, with the use of machine learning analytical tools, to improve health and well-being.

Dr. Seixas is one of the world’s most recognized and renown voices in sleep health, driving important conversations regarding sleep medicine and emerging technologies, serving as Vice Chair for the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) Committee on AI and Machine Learning, and serving as Conference Chair for the AASM Sleep Disruptors Conference. He is a member of the Philips International Sleep Advisory Board, leading discussions regarding the matrix between sleep and chronic disease. Dr. Seixas also serves on the Cardiac Rehabilitation Board of the American Heart Association.
